Long Beach CaLL identifies opportunities for businesses to get involved by using the work-based learning continuum. The Work-Based Learning Continuum, through career awareness, career research, career preparation, and career training, outlines some of the many activities, both in and outside the classroom, which enable students to connect academic and technical content to its “real world” application.

CAREER AWARENESS

Help students better understand the wide array of careers within a field, and what type of education and training is needed to enter and advance in an industry. Experiences might include: 

- Workplace Tours (1-2 hours)
Guest Speaking (30-60 min per class)
Career Fairs (2-4 hours)

CAREER RESEARCH

Offer professional experiences that show students how their decisions today can impact their future careers.
Experiences might include: 

 - Informational Interviews (1-2 hours)
 - Job Shadows (2-8 hours)
 - Mentoring/Coaching (2-15 hours)
 - Themed Projects (24+ hours)
 - Competition Judge (2-8 hours)
 - Online Discussion Forum (2-15 hours)

CAREER PREPARATION

Help shape our future workforce by helping students develop the important skills and knowledge needed to be successful in the workplace. 
Experience might include: 

- Resume Development (1-2 hours)
- Mock Interviews (1-2 hours)
- Industry Project (2-15 hours)
- Audition (1-4 hours)
- Teacher Externship (2 hours-2 days)
- Committee Member (2-40 hours)

CAREER TRAINING

Provide opportunities for students to take what they learn in the classroom and apply it to real world of work. 
Experiences might include: 

- Internships (45+ hours)
- Work Experience (45+ hours)
- Clinical Experience (4+ hours)
